So we’re still waiting for a real cold front to come through down here. I was hoping that we would have starting seeing “Red October” in the marsh, but it’s not really the case yet. The reds are definitely there, and feeding, but not as frenzy-like as I feel they should be. Of course, I did have an off day this past Thursday.
It started when I left the house a bit later than I wanted. Then, while passing through Houma, I got stuck behind a school bus. Fast-forward about fifteen minutes and I was stuck behind another school bus, who was stuck behind a garbage truck! Already being sleep deprived, this was making me more mad.
I finally got to fishing around 8am. I eventually found a small flat full of reds. I spotted one cruising a bank about 20 feet from where I was. I made a cast to him, which would be considered a long cast for this area. It didn’t take long for him to find it. After a short fight, he was in the boat and I was feeling confident that this was going to turn out to be a good day. Well…
Every other fish I saw and casted to spooked pretty quickly. It was a little discouraging. Sometimes, it had to do with my presentation; I forced the lure on a few fish unintentionally.
At least I came away with a few nice pictures to remember the day and the one red on video…
Until next time…
The productive tackle for the day…
